I have some very large ghost files and I would rather not create another very very large ISO file before burning the multi-boot cd.

I also use Roxio, not Nero (yet)

Can I just use loader.bin as my boot floppy image, and just make sure that the folder /ezboot and all of its contents are under /disk1/ezboot?

Any other way not to create an iso file first?  Thanks

Could you clarify what you mean by "very large ghost files"? Ghost is a small program so are you talking about images created with Ghost?

If so, I would suggest designing your bootable CD that you are creating with EasyBoot to be able to run the Ghost Program but don't  actually put your Ghost images on that same disc. Instead put the images on seperate discs. This way you can use your EasyBoot disc to run ghost for any machine you have backed up with ghost along with the actual backups for that machine on seperate discs.

Also, you may want to note that if you are using Norton Ghost 2003 and backing up directly to CD or DVD the first disc can   be made bootable by ghost.

If I am misunderstanding your question please respond back with some more details and I would be happy to try again :D

I like single CD's.  Not another one to mis-place.

I have the system's setup so that they fit on one compressed CD.  With a multi-boot general purpose floppy which no longer fits on a floppy.

So can I use just the loader.bin, or is there another way?

For backup image created by ghost, you need nothing but a bootable DOS floppy image, which boot your PC and run ghost.exe to restore the image. There is a sample floppy image here: http://www.ezbsys.com/download/ghost.img , which can be used as boot loader directly.

Look, I know how to run ghost and I know how to create single bootable cd's.  I have been using them for years.  I think you have a great product, and I am trying to understand how it works so that I can use it better.

So forget what I am using it for.  The question was simple:
How can I use loader.bin and the ezboot directory to create a bootable CD without using ISO.  I know it does not work, but I don't know why.  Can you explain just a little why it does not work?  Thanks.  Hopefully everyone will gain  from the explanation.  Thanks.

Actually, it does work.

In your first post you say that you want to create an image of the floppy and run it using EasyBoot. You correctly state that you place the image in the disk1\ezboot directory. However, you want to to place all the other files from the CD into the disk1 directory and NOT the ezboot subdirectory.

Lastly, I notice that you are calling the floppy image "loader.bin". I'm used to thinking of the boot sector from the CD as a .bin file and the floppy images as .ima  or .img files.  I don't think the name really matters. I just want to be sure we're both talking about the same thing here (a floppy image).

Does this help?

Hannes,

Yes, all the files are in the disk1 directory. What I am trying to do is not create the ISO file before I burn the CD.

Ezboot has a bootable record or module which then reads the .ezb file from the /ezboot directory and maybe it is loader.bin, but maybe called something else.

When it creates the ISO, it adds the ezboot loader.

I guess that I could try to extract the boot file info and try that.  I guess I am not sure about when the bios still has control ...  That is the reason for the discussion.

I guess the real question is whether or not there is only a single boot file that then interprets the .ezb file(s) to control the multiple boots?

Okay, I understand  what you are after now. I just tried doing it myself and also had no luck.

Maybe someone from EZB Systems can answer at this point.

Here is some detailed information:

1) Your CD-ROM load 'loader.bin' according to El Torito specification
2) 'loader.bin' simply load 'cdmenu.ezb' and transfer contorl to it
3) 'cdmenu.ezb' display all information on screen, and handle mouse/keyboard events
4) When you click a menu item, 'cdmenu.ezb' will detect boot record mode, and:
   a) non-emulation mode: load the coresponding .bin file, and transfer control to it
   b) emulation mode: emulate the floppy image, and boot from the virtual floppy
