Hi, i'm trying EasyBoot, i like it!!

I use XP SP3 in a P4 3ghz, no overclock.
I have a strange problem with Acronis (diskdir & Trueimage).

If i try to load a bif file, i get this dos message:
---boot image file is too large---
(in every pc)
(using bootinfotable; run image.bif)

If i try to load a iso file, in virtual pc i get:
--acronis loader---  but program doesn't start,
in my P4 works ok, in another pc, a HP Notebook,
it doesn't start, like virtualpc.

I get no errors loading .img files everywhere.
What can i do?
Thanks

First of all, welcome to this forum @franziscko :)

Quote: "I have a strange problem with Acronis"

I'm unsure what method you used to launch ISO-file ???
Anyway... Standard procedure is to copy the whole acronis.iso-file to folder EZBOOT and use menu command:  run acronis.iso ('run diskdir' and 'run Trueimage')

Attention! This way of launching Acronis.iso can only be used to EasyBoot_v6 or later!
You are highly recommended to update EasyBoot to latest version including updating latest version of UltraIso as well :;):

Note: Only check 'Joliet' when creating ISO in EasyBoot :O
Test and see if it works better :)

Make also sure to allocate at least 500MB RAM in settings to 'Virtual PC' to make sure it is working properly

Thank you...

i launch iso with run name.iso....

i use virtualpc only to test final image before burning.

i've tried with and without joliet...

i repair pc and big problem seems some pc are ok and some pc not,
but i don't understand why....

if there is something bad in the final image, it must be with error in ALL
pc....

a friend give me some acronis .bif, he used a old version of easyboot.

maybe the program is corrupted?
is there another way to run bif instead of bootinfotable?
for me are more important bif then new iso...

Hmm... I would not bet about it - some notebooks can be recalcitrant in there behaviour ???

Acronis on the other hand is known for its 'smooth behaviours'

-----------------------------
Quote: "is there another way to run bif instead of bootinfotable?"

You can test menu command:  bcdw /ezboot/acronis.iso

Read post nr; 2  < HERE >

Note1: check that you have file 'bcdw' in folder ezboot :O

Note2: bcdw-command can not be used from USB - only from CD\dvd-unit :O

Quote: "maybe the program is corrupted?"

Yes this could be the case - it's no harm to reinstalling EasyBoot to fresh up files and also test another acronis.iso-file(s) :;):

You made a mistake.
This command is for iso, i need a new one for bif ! :)

I will try to resinstall all.
Thank you for helping me.

NO I did not make any mistake ???  ???  ???

Please follow my simple tutorial:

1. Copy acronis.iso (or several ISO-files with different names) to folder EZBOOT

2. Use menu command in EasyBoot menu:  run acronis.iso

3. You may check 'Joliet' as a precaution for the whole build

DO NOT extract anything anywhere, just copy ISO(s) to folder EZBOOT and follow tutorial above
But check that you have a file 'bcdw' (40kb) in folder EZBOOT :O

oh Balder!!! you made a mistake because my question was:
"is there another way to run bif instead of bootinfotable?"

i have more bif and only 2 iso, and i need bif more than iso.
because my friend uses only bif with a version 5 and his cd
run everywhere, always.
thanks

Yes that is why I recommended method in post nr; 4 :;):
But I didn't have any clue your friend run EasyBoot_v5 :O
Why using that version ???
As far as I know upgrades are free
So go ahead and upgrade to latest version with better  support etcetera... :;):

Read post nr; 4  < HERE > and then jump to post nr; 17

Optionally... You can also send your bcdw-file you have in folder EZBOOT to your friend and your friend copies bcdw to folder EZBOOT in that computer!
Followed by your friend test my suggestion: bcdw acronis.iso

Your recommended method in post 4 is to load iso, NOT bif!!!
(i want to know if there is another command that substitute bootinfotable, only for bif!)

I'm sorry, i think my English is very bad...

My problem isn't for iso files.

I want to run acronis bif files, because my friend doesn't have relative isos.

If i get error loading a iso, it's not important in old computers, because i have the bif.
But in all computers i can't load BIF files with easyboot v.6

my friend use v.5, he don't want iso, only BIF and v.5 runs ok BIF in all computer.

so, the question is:
why v.6 run acronis iso in some pc and NOT run bif in all pc?
why v.5 run every bif in every pc?
(not important v.5 not run iso...)

i hope you can understand me...

Quote: "I'm sorry, i think my English is very bad..."

No it is working fully okay :;):

However as far as I understand you are run EasyBoot_v6 and having some problem if using ISO-file (not extracting anything)
But your friend is run EasyBoot_v5 and use 'bootinfotable;run ***.bif' and it work to all computers

You have a summary of common commands used in EasyBoot < HERE >

However updated EasyBoot works slightly different but over all given menu command can still be used.
And menu command;  bootinfotable;run ***.bif' is still in full operate

l find it strange that acronis cannot run from ISO-file to some odd computer ???

You can test the 'last resort' - and that is to integrate ISO-file(s) using my script 'easyboot-iso.script' :)
Check 'Run ISO From RAM' in script.

Note: You have download below.
Read carefully 'READ_ME.html' in folder 'balder' before you start using script.

ok, you have understand everything!!

now i will try with your script.

I have some good and bad news...

My friend give me his boot menu cd.

I've extracted all directory Ezboot and substitute my one with this ol one.
So i have easyboot v.6 but dir ezboot made with v.5

I've build iso........remember, using bootinfotable for .bif...
ALL RUN OK.

well....i opened the menu acronis.ezb, i've made a modify and annulled, after this i've saved the menu, so it has new version.
(old ezb file was about 24kb, this new one is about 38kb, without modify ANYTHING).

I've build again iso....
now i get again error -- boot image file is too large --

so, problem is in file ezb.
what can i do?

To clear things out...

Did you or did you not reinstall EasyBoot ???

Tip: you can download latest version of EasyBoot and simply install it right over existing EasyBoot :)

But anyway, as you run Easyboot_v6 I insist you try with :  bcdw acronis.iso
However also: run acronis.iso  shouldn't be any problem ???

And only checking 'Joliet' when creating ISO

-----------------------------
Note: latest EasyBoot is much more powerful than EasyBoot_v5 (but latest UltraIso must also be installed as well).
You can very easy test run your acronis ISO-files from a USB stick and in that way run in 'real' test if it works.
However if you have a CD-RW to test with (if still using them) that's okay as well.

Please notice this; You cannot be sure Virtual PC is testing your build correctly :O
Instead download free qemu-tester < HERE >

Extract to the root C:\

Launch program and you choose 'Run the LivCD'
Note: you don't need to '....create hard disk image for your virtual machine'  when program asks you - always choose NO when question pops up

Ok....

i don't know why you insist with iso.
for me bif are more important than iso. i have bif but i can't recreate iso.

now i see version of my easyboot (shareware)
6.5.2.693

i've downloaded it again and now there is a little difference
6.5.2.695

well........with old one, launching bif i get error - boot image file is too large..
now, with the new one, bif DOESN'T start anymore!!! no error messages!!

are you happy?

every new version of this program is more bad than the previous.
and i deleted the old one, so i can't do anything.....

so, i think this program is not for me.

@franziscko

Quote: "are you happy?"
NO I'm not happy as you have missed the whole point here and I quote: "i can't recreate iso"

Acronis software can create a 'rescue ISO'.
It is this ISO-file we are interested in :O

Simply create “rescue ISO-file” using Acronis “Bootable Rescue Media Builder” (you have this option in Acronis)
Or why not download rescue-iso-files from Internet
Try search words like this:  rapidshare Trueimage  OR rapidshare Trueimage rescue iso
If you are lucky you find something - so you don't even need to create rescue-iso (though this looks as a better option)

Then copy 'rescue-ISO' to folder EZBOOT and use 'bcdw acronis.iso'  (or whatever name you use to ISO)

------------------------
EDIT:
For a couple of minutes ago I downloaded Acronis_Disk_Director_Home_11.0.216
I installed the program and....

Launch acronis software and choose 'Tools>>Acronis Bootable Media Builder' and choose to create an ISO-file
Use that rescue-ISO-file as I already described (run acronis.iso)

Is this a problem ???

My bif files are very old, is extremely difficult to find these programs now.
And i need old programs for old computers.
I need Acronis true image enterprise server 9, disk director server 8...
It's impossible to find...

Old computers requires old acronis and old boot menu, starting bif not iso.
These are words of my friend.

Now i have 5 bif files, and i need to use them as i have easyboot 5.
Using easyboot 6, they doesn't works.
This is the real problem.

Starting acronis 11 with iso in new computers is much simple....
I had my first home computer in late 1982, i've tryied more and more programs. After Powerquest partition magic, acronis is the best format tool.

ok...let's start again...
why i have this problem with bif file?
why only with easyboot 6?
why easyboot 5 runs perfectly bif file?
Tell me, please.
And don't speak about iso. i don't need iso.
solve this mystere and i will buy this program.

@franziscko

I searched for 'Acronis_True_Image_Enterprise_Server_9' and it took me 5 seconds to find a download
By installing this program I can take advantages of the Media Builder in acronis :;):

But the 'Disk_Director-Server_8' is not that easy to find
On the other hand, I'm pretty sure 'Disk_Director-Server_10' is close the same and can easy be found.
And 'Disk_Director-Server_10' is easy to create ISO and use menu command:  run ***.iso  or  bcdw ***.iso)
--------------------------------
Quote: "why easyboot 5 runs perfectly bif file?"

I cannot give you any straight answer ???  why 'bootinfotable;run ***.bif' seems to fail launching your acronis software in Easyboot_v6

I have no clue as this goes back 7 years ago.

In those 'old days' we instead used Acronis Media Builder and created a large floppy image and simply launched that image (run ***.img)

Quote: "And don't speak about iso. i don't need iso"
Then follow this 'old' method in post nr; 2 < HERE >

Note: you still need to use built-in Rescue Media Builder to create floppy images and of course a working floppy installed to your computer as well
Newer acronis software doesn't have this floppy image stuff any more - it only uses ISO-files

hello balder , franziscko

First of all , for running Acronis tutorial , balder is the best. As I also run Acronis in balder's way .... in post number 6 :

1. Copy acronis.iso (or several ISO-files with different names) to folder EZBOOT

2. Use menu command in EasyBoot menu:  run acronis.iso

Now I use Easyboot 6.5 new version. In the old days I use Easyboot 5 :

1. Copy acronis.iso to C:\EasyBoot\disk1\ISO and acronis.img.gz to C:\EasyBoot\disk1\EZBOOT

2. User menu command : memdisk acronis.img.gz (it's a very old method and I've forgot have to make it again)

It runs ok. So the old way with Easyboot 5 and the new method with Easyboot 6.5 are also work.

As a computer repairer , I work with Acronis TrueImage 2010 , 2011 , 2012 and Acronis Disk Director Suite 11 everyday. For my experience , Acronis products can work on most computers (over 90% of any computer). And I agree on some computers Acronis even can't boot properly especially on Factory Desktop Computers , I think it's their BIOS problem. For the Factory Desktop Computers , if you insert a usb stick , it boots and hang up in the Factory Logo screen. If you unplay that usb stick and boot again , it becomes normal. Very strange !! And some computers if not hang up in the Factory Logo screen , still Acronis boot failure !!

As far as I know , Acronis boots perfect on new and old computers but not for all. If you say your friend can boot Acronis on every or any computer , try to ask him more about the failure experience. I'm sure he must have some encounters.

I'm here just want to share my experience and not a tutorial. Thanks for everybody.

This is last time.

I know how to use iso files, but i need and i want to load .bif files!!
I don't have old iso from where i've made bif files and i don't want
to search anymore...

I want to load bif files
I want to know WHY modifying .ezb file from ver.5 to ver.6 it doesn't works.
It's a bug? please correct it!
Only these things...

As long as this discussion has its 'up and downs' - you have never explained how your build (the 'old' way
) is exactly created ???

My guess is that you have a ***-bif-file that is something around 20 to 40 MB in size - is this correct?

You are trying to launch this ***.bif-file using menu command:  bootinfotable:run ***.bif
Is this an correct description what you are doing?

Can you please upload ***.bif-file to rapidshare (or whatever) so I can take a closer look into file

Use 'messenger' in the upper right corner and put in balder as the member to send download link to.

I can do some test as I still have an 14 year old 'Amada-note-book' (very rare to find these days) and also a 12 year old Hewlett Packard work-station - if I kick on computer it mostly get up and run

If I'm able to launch your ***.bif from these computers - it shouldn't be any problem to the ones you are interested in
