I needed the FDISK.EXE file to fix a master boot record. This file can be found on the Win98 boot floppy or on a Win9X Startup Disk. Someone sent me by email an ISO copy of Win98 SE Startup Disk which I then successfully burned to disk using Nero. Could someone explain why an ISO file was used in this case rather than just sending by email a copy of the startup disk? Maybe a dumb question because it might not be possible to send by email a copy of a startup disk, I don't know. It's something I have never had the occasion of trying.I've been mulling over my own question and think perhaps I've found the answer. If I were to attempt sending Win98SE by email by first creating a file which was a copy of the Win98SE startup disk, such a file would not contain the required information to make a bootable disk even though it was an exact copy of the Win98SE startup disk. An ISO copy of the Win98SE startup disk on the other hand contains all the required information to make a bootable Win98SE startup disk. Please correct me if I am wrong in my thinking. At present most computers have no floppy disk drive, and compact discs work much reliably.If you want to reproduce a boot floppy, please do as the following: 1) Open the ISO by UltraISO 2) Choose 'Bootable'->'Save Bootable file' from main menu, you will get a 1.44MB/2.88MB .BIF file, rename it to .IMA 3) Choose 'Bootable'->'Write Floppy Disk' to create a bootable floppy from the .IMA file |
