I am trying to make an ISO image of a bootable DVD+R DL.

Specs:
OS: Vista 64-bit SP1
RAM: 4GB + 2GB ReadyBoost
Optical drive: TSSTcorp CDW/DVD TS-H492A
Media type: Verbatim 2.4x 8.5GB DVD+R DL (P/N: 95123)
Space used on DVD: 8,350,113,792B (7.77GB)
UltraISO Premium Edition v9.3.3.2685

1. Tools > Make CD/DVD Image...
2. Options: Enable ISO Volume Filter, Standard ISO(.ISO)

It took about 20-25 minutes to reach 50.00%.
It is now 1h50m and it is at 50.02% ("50.00%" in taskbar).

Not until about 35-40 minutes did the actual .iso show in Explorer at ~4GB, before it is ~38MB.  The file size increases by around 50-200KB every 5-10 minutes.  I still have activity on my drive, but can't find what it's writing to using Vista's Resource Manager.

Possible problems:
1) Your DVD+R DL disc is damaged. Try other programs such as CloneCD will get the same performance.
2) Your disc is copy-protected. It is recommanded to install AnyDVD from SlySoft, then try again.

Ok, so I tried CloneCD and didn't get very far with it either.  I decided to try my other optical drive (PLEXTOR DVDR  PX-716A  1.10) and that worked perfectly -- completed in 22m11s.  According to Vista's Resource Manager, UltraISO's peak write rate was around 620MB/min!

So, must be some incompatibility between the TSSTcorp drive and the Verbatim 2.4x DVD+R DL media.
