Hello.

Usually, when I compile my project, I allways test every option in the boot menu until a certain point.

Today, when I really needed my project to work, I run Windows 7 setup from my USB device and after the welcome window (so far so good), I receive the following error:

"A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing" and some other related but no really meaningful text.

As I searched the Web, many people got this error, but from other backgrounds. Since there is NO error when I select Xpress Boot (only works with USB-HDD+, not v2) and it only appears when I use the Write feature with Boot Partition (both USB-HDD+ and USB-HDD+ v2), what can be the cause? And more important, what solution is there?

Thank you.

EDIT: Error corrected.

Usually you get this when trying to directly launch ISO-file of Win7 - but this seems not to be the case here :)

Quote: "Since there is NO error when I select Xpress Boot (only works with USB-HDD+, not v2)"

Yes I can briefly understand why it works when choosing USB-HDD+ but not for 'v2'

I'm not 100% sure what happens when choosing 'v2' but I guess Easyboot creates a separate tiny partition and this can cause setup of Win7 to not find the 'real partition' (where setup-files is put).

Note: this is only my guess - maybe @xoben can clear things out about my guesses ???

Quote: "either with or without Boot Partition"
I also guess that creating 'Boot Partition' is not any smart idea as partition is 'hided' :O

I guess that setup of any OP-system from USB device must be done 'straight forward' without any 'odd settings' involved.
An typically 'straight forward choice' is 'Xpress Boot with USB-HDD+' which worked correctly for you (which on the other hand was expected).

Hmmmm... This was not any 100% perfect answer to your request - but at least a response :)

C'mon... You know me better than this. :D

The real reason why it doesn't work is because it says "Failed writing MBR". The reason behind that you may know. I have no idea whatsoever. ???

I have an update, now not even the Xpress Write in USB-HDD+ works, since I tried to burn another build of my project, and I get a message similar to this: "EZLDR not found. Press CTRL + ALT + DEL to reboot."

I must say that, so far, everytime I test my project in a virtual environment, everything is 100% smooth. The journey starts when I want to get it to work in real life. I'm starting to get frustrated with EasyBoot. Every attemp to improve a project seems to bring a buckload of errors... :O

In this kind of questions sometimes there isn't a right or wrong answer, what counts is the fact that there's someone who listens and tries to help us. And you, my friend, have almost a perfect score in that area. :)

He, he... Sorry - my apologies :D

----------------------
Quote: "Failed writing MBR"

This can be caused by that there might be an hided extra partition that still is left on your USB drive ???

This can also explain Quote: "EZLDR not found. Press CTRL + ALT + DEL to reboot."

IF you do have that extra hided partition - question is how to get rid of it ???

If it is an USB stick you could try using HP format tool - download HERE
Then test burn your build again!

---------------------------
However... I do hope it is a USB Stick\Thumb-drive you use?

If this is the case - could you please test using my script 'EASYBOOT-NT6-SETUP' to test if setup of win7  works correctly that way
Attention! You must download and completely replace folder 'balder' as script-collection has been updated!

This is only to make sure setup of win7 do work correctly

I'm pretty sure I don't have a hidden partition. Here's what I do: when you press Write in UltraISO, the partition table is completely erased, so that when we choose the Boot Partition it may create it. So I just use a small ISO and Write it without Boot Partition to the USB drive and then use the actual ISO I want, with or without Boot Partition. I think it works.

But just in case, I run the HP Format Tool and the result is the same. ???

A while ago, I was using a microSD card with an adapter, like I told you. In the meantime, I bought a new one, just to be able to test some stuff and so that I can exclude problems from the device itself.

For the record, this is what I use: Samsung microSD card with 32Gb Class 10, Kingston microSD card 8Gb Class 4, Kingston microSD to USB adapter. The first card is the new purchase. :)

I have been using my Windows 7 ISO for a year now, burning it into DVD's, into USB devices with Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool, etc. Everytime it worked.

And using Xpress Write with this ISO to a USB device works great. I don't know why it doesn't find EZLDR. After the writing process, I can find that file at the root (and I guess at the Ezboot folder too, but I'm not sure)...

---

By the way, I was reading the first post again and I realized there's something not accurate. Write feature, without Boot Partition, works. The problem is that I need to have the USB device in NTFS, and as you well know, with Write the result in always in FAT32. :(

Quote: "Write feature, without Boot Partition, works"

As I wrote in post nr; 2 - Quote: "I also guess that creating 'Boot Partition' is not any smart idea as partition is hided"

When you create an extra separate partition Win7 setup system can 'go nuts' :O

---------------------------

Quote: "The problem is that I need to have the USB device in NTFS"

I don't know why you need to have NTFS ???

Anyway...
As step 1: I still recommend you to test my script 'EASYBOOT-NT6-SETUP' to get Win7 setup onboard USB device. Don't forget to download newly updated folder 'balder (replace folder 'balder' with the new scripts - please note you also have a new script 'Install and run Win-8 from USB.script')
Note: Check both "Generate EasyBoot menu command" and check "Format To NTFS" in script!
You now have a working setup of Win7 from USB device :)

And as step 2:  create your ISO in EasyBoot without Win7-files (you already have files on USB device at this point). Only have your other 'utilities or whatever in EasyBoot build as usual when creating ISO in EasyBoot.
Then use my script 'EasyBoot-usb_v2.script' and check "Force script to NOT format USB drive!" and point to ISO created by EasyBoot.

You can now use EasyBoot and launch setup of Win7 and in same ISO-file have other stuff as well (MsDART65 etcetera)

Just an idea to see what happens

regards balder

Hey, sorry for the long absence... College has been killing me for the past week.

QUOTE

Well, that's because my install.wim in Windows 7 setup is over 4 Gb...

I tried the method you suggested, and the boot screen loaded perfectly, the problem is that no matter which option I took, the boot sequence would freeze. ???

I guess I'm gonna give up on EasyBoot. It was a good experience, but it gives more errors than happiness. I've been searching and Grub4DOS seems like a good idea, and with GFXBoot it's pretty much a simpler-to-use solution than EB.

Maybe some day I'll return, when those "small" details I mentioned in the other thread are taken under consideration, who knows?

Thank you, balder, for all your help for the past years. You're something else. :)

Take care.
