Hi again

I want to include the option to install my Dell laptop Windows 7 from a multiboot DVD. The problem is that the Win7setup.iso must remain intact because it contains customized folders inside and outside the source folder (Boot logo, drivers etc). I tried to extract the entire iso into disk1 and use the command "run bootmgr" but I always get a fatal error when trying to install windows (about missing/bad files). This does not happen if I install from the original iso directly. I I try to directly load by "run win7setup.iso" I get a different error from windows setup gui about missing driver files...

Is there another way to boot windows setup if the setup is not only dependent on the install.wim, but make use of other directories in the root of the install dvd?

Hi, @EB1000

Quote: "Windows 7 from a multiboot DVD"

Modified setup is a common source to problems :(

It is hard to say how to solve such issue :p

Instead....

Read post nr;2 HERE

Note: I cannot give any support more than how to launch from EasyBoot menu - which is possible
Anyway... Start with trying to get it work from grub menu described in tutorial, and when setup from ISO works, come back for a method how to launch from EasyBoot menu :;):

Above only works from USB stick and not from DVD-unit :O

Thanks balder

Let me just clear a few things:

1. The setup works without any errors when I launce the iso on it's own (without multiboot)

2. The setup works great in real life from both DVD and USB stick (if I convert the ISO to USB using your excellent scripts)

The problem is when I try to include this setup in a multiboot session. (Together with ACRONIS TI, Kaspersky, Paragon HDM and Hiren).

So assuming that there is no problem with the original ISO, is there another boot method I can try? If I use direct iso loading (run *.iso) i do get into windows setup but I also get missing drivers error, which means that the setup cannot access the extra folders outside of the wim image. If I use run bootmgr after extracting the entire iso to disk1, i don't even get into setup, I get a BSOD a few seconds after launch (missing windows files)...

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Hi, @EB1000

Sorry for missunderstanding
He, he I'm an old fashioned guy with with limited 'internal processor' in my head

Anyway....
Quote: "1. The setup works without any errors when I launce the iso on it's own (without multiboot)"
You mean ISO created by EasyBoot that hold folders and files related to Win7 ???
That will say - you extract folder BOOT and folder 'sources' files etcetera to folder disk1 in EasyBoot, followed by creating ISO in EasyBoot (including EasyBoot menu command: run /bootmgr)
If this doesn't work - then it is something else that is wrong here :O
Note: in 'normal' case, this works from both DVD as from USB stick (you can use 'Burn' to USB in EasyBoot - you don't need my script to this)

Quote: "The problem is when I try to include this setup in a multiboot session"
This is strange as this shouldn't interfere to setup of Win7 :(

Make sure to only tick 'Joliet' when creating ISO in EasyBoot
And also test without ticking 'Joliet', to see what's happening

Quote: "If I use direct iso loading (run *.iso) i do get into windows setup but I also get missing drivers error"
Yes this is normal - that's why I gave you link in post nr;2 above (only works from USB stick)
Using that method (firadisk) it's reported that setup of Win7 works directly from ISO-file (though I have never succeeded with this)

Quote: "If I use run bootmgr after extracting the entire iso to disk1, i don't even get into setup"
I don't understand this part (how setup can fail using Win7-files from folder disk1) ???

thanks

I mean the original ISO with windows setup works if I load it into VirtualBOX. But the problems begin when I try to add this ISO to a multiboot with ezboot. I tried 2 methods

1. Extract all ISO into disk1 and use command "run bootmgr" as demonstrated in ezboot demo file. This method results in BSOD windows not able to load at all

2. I put the ISO file inside disk1/ISO and use the "run iso" command. This almost works. Windows setup starts normaly but in middle of installation many error about missing driver files (these are driver that DELL peaople put in a folder outside of sources)

So the second method cannot access files in the ISO root, it only loads the wim files...

Finally I got it to work but I'm sure that it can be done without wasting so mush space/ These method works for me:

1 Extract iso to disk1 (all files)
2 Copy the iso into disk1/ISO
3. use the run iso command

All works, but my setup is now double the size because the iso appears twice...

I'm sure that I can delete some of the files inside the iso as well inside the root of disk1. Need to trial and error and report back

Thx

Hmm... Strange this happens ???

Could you please test using my script "EasyBoot-Vista\Win-7.script" to integrate Win7 into EasyBoot :p
Note: you must create a folder and extract all files from ISO to this folder and in script set path to this folder with Win7-files :O
Recommended is to use C:\ and create a folder win7 to extract files to :)
Like this  C:\win7   (no spaces in name as usual - as script refuse to work if spaces in name is present)

Don't forget to insert product key in script

Thanks

Your wind 7 script worked as setup loaded and windows was installed. However additional setup settings such as installing drivers and setting Dell logo and owner info did not work... Looks like Dell are using very non standard install setup..

Anyway, I decided to use my own windows 7 setup by modifying windows setup and injecting updates and drivers using the wonderful Win toolkit (http://www.wincert.net/forum/forum/179-win-toolkit/). For this setup I created,  your windows 7 script worked very well!!

Thanks

Thank you for confirming that script did integrate setup of Win7 to EasyBoot in an correct way :;):

Interesting is that script also worked for "modifying windows setup" :O

My best regards

win tool kit mounts the install.wim file and allows you to modify it. So as far as your script, "it was not aware" that it is a modified setup. DEll, whoever use a different setup. All modifications are done outside install.wim...
