I've seen a number of posts where people have requested the ability to use an ISO image in EasyBoot.

I realize that it would be prefereable to use the existing methods, especially if you wanted optimization of your final EasyBoot CD. Still, for some products that are a real pain in the neck (TrueImage comes to mind) being able to launch an ISO image would be awesome!

I was just wondering if anyone could comment on the feasibility of this. Would the code for being able to use an ISO image be something way too large or complex to incorporate into a product such as EasyBoot?

I'm just curious because the ability to do this would make EasyBoot the most needed utility in everyone's toolbox!

I don't understand why people want ISOs to be booted? Even if this is made possible, there would be some drawbacks! for example if there are 2 ISO images, once the Boot Manager boots to 1 of the iso, it cannot PEEP into another!

All these CDs that you're talking about has only one file that makes the CD bootable! EZBoot does nothing but gives you option to boot not only to that file but others aswell (if you put it into ezboot folder). I feel the concept of Booting from Disc is not understood by you all dudes :)

Oxtie, I understand the concept perfectly! I've been creating bootable CDs for years. In fact, query the Microsoft Knowledge base for an article on how to create an El Torito Bootable CD - this is an article I wrote way back when this required manual editing. As I stated in my original post, it would be nice for some of those troublesome utilities such as TrueImage. You see, TrueImage does a checksum on it's bootsector and so you cannot use the normal methods provided by EasyBoot. Now, I realize that a seed image can be created and this allows you to create a large floppy image that gets around this problem, but what you may not know is that I'm working with a newer build that this does not seem to work with.

The ability to directly execute a bootable ISO image for such a program would be nice.

There is another reason that the ability to run an ISO directly would be nice. On the DVD that I have created I have added MANY utilities from various other bootable program CDs. I copy the bootsector from all of these to the EZBoot directory but I have to copy all the other files from the root of the CDs to the Disk1 directory. After you add 10+ discs worth of files it starts getting highly disorganized and you end up with conflicting files (files of the same name from more than one program).

I have no problem with the existing method of booting a floppy image or the CD Bootimage. I'm simply saying that the ability to execute a bootable ISO as well would be helpful as well if it were technically feasible.

TrueIMage probably requires a CRACK or support from EZB developers. Solving it through ISO method will probably block all other files in the CD... ??? Practically thinking, I don't see any possiblity without hard work by our cool coders!

These guys have to start from scratch (diskemu) and thats whats usually coders hate (messing around  :D )

Oxtie, I think that the part that may be the barrier in communication here is this: If I launch a program such as TrueImage from the EasyBoot disc, then I really don't care at all if I can see the other content on the disc or not. If I want to access other programs on the disc I'll simply reboot and then access that program.

This feature is useful, but hard to realize and debug.

I had a feeling something like that would be the case. Thanks for the response!
