I got an .iso file, then loaded it into UI, deleted some files inside and saved the remaining stuff into another .iso

Much to my surprise the resulting .iso is (without the deleted files !) approx 25% bigger than the original .iso.
Why ?

Then I tried to explicitely compress the new .iso and noticed that the resulting file has an extension .isz

Even worse the .isz (with "Heavy Compress" option) is still 20% bígger than the original .iso

How can I compress an .iso into an .iso?

Matt

Please choose 'File'->'Properties' from main menu of UI, check 'Optimize' option and try again.
