Forum: UltraISO Topic: Edited iso corrupt after burning ??? started by: janger Posted by janger on Dec. 20 2006,22:57
I have an iso image of some graphics programs and I want to add a folder with software updates to it. I opened the iso and dragged the folder with the updates into it. After saving to a new iso it seems to work ok in daemontools. But when the iso is burned with nero and the cd is loaded, all the files in the update folder are corrupt. If I try to run the update exe's an error pops up that "the file has been truncated" or something. Everything else seems fine, only the added files have problems. I tried doing the same thing but this time saved it as an alcohol image, and it seemed to work properly. Is there something I have to set for iso images or could this be a bug? Well this is strange. Both Nero and Blindwrite created a cd with the added files coming out corrupt. But Imgburn seemed to create a proper image.Anyone know more about this? Is there a bug drag-and-dropping files into ultraiso, that causes problems with other burning apps? I've never had a problem burning iso's with any of the above programs. The original iso burns fine. It's only the one's I add files to in Ultraiso that cause problems. Posted by janger on Dec. 21 2006,02:56
And the checksum log:CODE # MD5 checksums generated by UltraISO (http://www.ezbsystems.com) # Generated 2006-12-21 18:44:10 Filter: Failed ('>' - Passed, 'X' - Failed, '!' - Not found) X 85378c5423df5b8175ba0d778550a401 *Updates\ps902.exe That error is from a Blindwrite burned image. So is there something "non-standard" about ultraiso's images? Posted by xoben on Dec. 21 2006,04:30
Please do it this way:1) Open the old ISO, add files and folders to this image 2) Choose 'File'->'Create checksums' to get a MD5 file 3) "Save As" a new ISO 4) Mount the ISO to Deamon-Tools, and choose 'Tools'->'Verify CD/DVD checksums' to verify the contents on virtual disc 5) If step 4 works, then burn it by one of your burning program, and verify again Posted by janger on Dec. 21 2006,17:49
Yes I tried that. The image works fine in daemon-tools and the checksums are all good. It's only when the image is burned to a disc with most programs that something goes wrong.I think Nero used to have problems with iso images but thought that was all worked out many versions ago. I will try a disc copy from the iso mounted in Daemon tools, burn that and see what happens. If it works then there is something strange about the iso images created by Ultraiso, as far as the mentioned burning apps are concerned. Posted by janger on Dec. 21 2006,18:09
Well it didn't work. I did a disc copy from the virtual drive, using Blindwrite, and when the resulting image was burned the problems are there again. And yet it worked fine in Daemon tools. I don't get how this can happen, then again I have no knowledge of iso images.Just did another burn of the image saved by Ultraiso, using Imgburn, and the resulting cd md5's are fine. So from all this I have no idea. Both Nero and Blindwrite can't burn Ultraiso's output properly. Imgburn does without problems, and Daemon-tools seems to have no problem mounting them either. And yet creating an image of the iso mounted in Daemontools give a corrupt image again. Posted by janger on Dec. 21 2006,18:24
Isobuster gives the following error after scanning the burned cd: QUOTE Following files are located on locations that are unreadable.
Extracting them might prove difficult and the resulting files may contain errors. 0186256 , H:\Updates\ps902.exe Posted by janger on Dec. 21 2006,19:04
Wish I could edit my posts ![]() Just letting u know that saving to either Nero or Alcohol images works fine. It's only when saving as iso that the problem occurs. Is anyone interested in confirming this? Posted by xoben on Dec. 22 2006,09:17
Hello janger, please check your PM for instructions.

Hi Janger,Just registered to let you know im having the same issue. I've recently been adding updates and patches to existing ISO files using UltraISO (which i've used for several years now, and is an excellent piece of kit). Mounting the images in Dameon tools works perfoectly, however upon burning via both Nero and Blindwrite, the newly added files give a series of errors when trying to execute or copy them (from "Not a Valid Win32 Application", "Incorrect Parameter" etc). Strangely, it seems only the new content is that having the issue (all the files that existed on the original ISO before editing still function perfectly well). I hope you've found a solution ot this issue, and if you had, coudl you be so kind as to pass it on to me. Cheers --Jakk:t Posted by xoben on Jan. 11 2007,20:35
Hello Jakk, as we cannot reproduce this problem on all of our systems, it will be appreciated if someone can provide instructions or sample ISO images for checking.

Hi Xoben, as per your request i'll try and outline how i've been able to produce this issue:I tend to backup a lot of my software (particularly games), ripping a copy of the disc to ISO, then editing the ISO in UltraISO usually adding an additional directory in the CD/DVD's root (often named "Updates" or similar) in which i place update files, patches and the like, usually '.zip' or '.exe' format. I will then usually save the update dimage with UltraISO or in some circumstances "Save as..." and supply a new name for the ISO. The ISO is then burned, usually using Blindwrite or Nero (burning software is properly configured and doesnt usually produce any absnormal errors). In cases where the issue occurs, the contents held on the original ISO file continue to function properly, however the newly added contents (i.e. the contents of "Updates" on one of my typical backups) tend to have issues. Namely, executables do not show properly and refuse to execute, usually issuing an "Invalid Win32 Application" fatal error. Similarly, trying to copy these files off the CD/DVD to hard disk for execution usually gives a fatal error with the message "Paramater Incorrect" occurign midway through copying. In sme instances (i.e. when i havent got any writable media about) i just store the updated ISO's on the local hard disk and mount them in Daemon tools, and no such issues occur. However, at later dates i have been able to burn said images to a disk, and the errors do occur. I havent burned any such ISO's recently if my memory serves me correctly, however i have recently tried accessing data on some DVD/CD's i have previously backed up in this manner and encoutnered the above issues. Two obvious recent examples stick out in my mind: 1) A backup of Tomb Raider: Legends, an ISO image was ripped from the original CD, a New Folder named "Update" created in the root directory and the v1.12 update executable (TRLegendPatch1_2.exe) placed there. The updated ISO was then saved and burned in Nero/Blindwrite with any complications. Several months later i used the disk and attempted to install Tomb Raider: Legend (i.e. i used the files that were on the original image) and did so without issue. I then wished to apply the update stored on the DVD, executing the "TRLegendPatch1_2.exe" stored in "Update" however results in an "Invalid Win32 Application" error. 2)A backup of Football Manager 2007 (aka Worldwide Soccer Manager 2007), again a new folder was created named "Update" and a patch/update executable placed there - in an ISO backup taken from the original, using UltraISO. Again, when wishing to run the patch/update file an error occured, when trying to copy the executabel to a local hard disk a further error "Incorrect Paramater" occurs midway through the process of copying from the disk to the HDD. Sorry about the above being fairly vague, but it is IIRC a number of months since i made both backup images and my memory is a little hazy on details. I hope the above information cna be of some help to you. Many thanks --Jakk Posted by xoben on Jan. 12 2007,01:27
Thank you Jakk. Could you please send one of the problem ISO's to us for detailed checking?PS: Please check your PM for information about our FTP server. Posted by Jakk on Jan. 12 2007,11:30
Hi Xoben,Unfortunatley im capped at 12KB/s by my ISP, and the ISO files i mention above are a minimum of 700mb - obviously that will be a bit of a mammoth task to upload for me. However, i'll try and recreate the issue on a smaller ISO file (i'll try using a driver disc or something similar - adding some content and seeing if it produces the error) then send it along to you. Unfortunatley im a bit busy at the moment with a few things, but i'll try and get something sent along to you ASAP, i'll be in touch about it when i can. Cheers --Jakk Posted by xoben on Jan. 12 2007,20:20

Now comes a solution: please run the .REG file in attachment to avoid this problem with Nero 7.Note: Latest verision 7.8.5.0 has fixed this bug with burning ISO images. |
