I start with an existing *.iso image archive file with size 2.045.632.546 bytes

I extracted with UltraIso the content onto my hard disc
which yields a directory tree of total size:
3.032.546.444 bytes (=50% more).

Now I tried to re-pack the extracted directory tree back into a new *.iso image.
For that I selected the just created directory tree
and saved it as an ISO image with UltraISO.

Much to my surprise the resulting iso file archive has a size of 3.007.543.454 bytes

Why is it not compressed more ?
I expected a size similar to the size of the original ISO archive.

How can I compress to an *.ISO target but not choose explicitely an *.ISZ extension.

The originally small *.iSO proves that it must work somehow.

1) Start UltraISO
2) Choose 'Actions'->'Add Directory' to add the folder
3) Choose 'File'->'Properties', check 'Optimize'
4) Save an ISO
