Hi,

I have an iso image meant for a CD.
I want to extract the files to my USB hard drive (no problem - done).

But I then want to make this drive bootable - Can UltraISO create an appropriate bootsector for me?  Is there some other way to get the bootsector that works for the CD to now work with the hard drive copy instead? And how do I get this bootsector on the hard drive, it's easy with CD's as UltraISO does it for you?

(the image I'm working with is a BartPE iso image - I want to be able to add new plugins later without having to burn a new CD each time, so thought having on removable media should work).

Regards, Bryce.

CD bootsector will not work on a harddrive.

There's plenty of info on the 911cd forums on how to boot bartpe from usb.

Galapo.

Hello everybody  XSS Attempt! Ban This IP Address! I have a different reason for wanting to make an ISO image on a HDD which is bootable, and I'm not convinced I have found how to do that, perhaps someone can help me. The source of the ISO is an installed Win 98 OS [(disk (0) part(1)] and I am running UltraISO under Win XPSP2 [disk (0) part (2)]. I cannot run the Win 98 on my machine now that I have increased the RAM to 2 GBy, it just won't handle the memory. I want to run it in a Microsoft Virtual PC (with only 340 MBy RAM allocated) from a WinXP bootup, so I need a bootable ersatz CD-image to point the Virtual-PC at. {This method works fine with a HDD  ISO copy of Bart-PE}. XSS Attempt! Ban This IP Address!

If I create an ISO of drive C:\ with UltraISO, it is not bootable by Virtual PC. I recognize that I do not really understand what Ultra ISO means about "setting the boot file". I know how to take a copy of the mbr and first logical boot sector from volume C:\, but not in one of the stated formats. Can anyone guide me to where the light shines brightest? Thanks, --Grahame

Sorry about the "XSS Attempt! Ban This IP Address!", obviously I don't know how to put emoticons in my message. And what else do I not know......
