Topic: Unable to customize: My ISO Files Location

from the Configurations -> General tab, I change the path to the "My ISO Files Location" to point to an existing folder where my account have Full Control.

UltraISO inform me that I need to restart the program for that change to take effect. However, after a restart, the value for "My ISO Files Location" is still "C:\Program Files\UltraISO".

How can I change that path and make it stick?

Also, even if I check the "Use fixed 'My ISO Files Location'" option, it is always un-checked when I restart UltraISO.

I use UltraISO 8.6.3.2056

Please note that Administrator's right is needed for changing settings under Windows Vista.

My account is a member of the local administrators group and the OS is Windows Server 2003.

I did try to change other options and it turns out than none of the changes I make are preserved. Each time I restart UltraISO, the default options are always restored.

I just found out that UltraISO is not multi-user friendly in term of setting changes.

UltraISO was originally installed using the Administrator account. Then I started to work with a different account which is a member of the local Administrators group.

Even so that account was not able to change UltraISO settings ... silent discard of my customization.

Using the account which could not save the settings, I un-installed UltraISO and re-installed it. This time, my customization settings changes are preserved as expected.

One interesting observation. Before I un-installed UltraISO, the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\EasyBoot Systems\UltraISO\5.0  had only a few entries in it (less than 5 if I recall). Now after the re-install, that same registry path has more than 75 entries and they are the settings for UltraISO.

Same problem again this time with version 9.1.2.2465

I started to work with a different account and the first time I started UltraISO, it prompted me for a name and registration code which I entered.

As stated in the initial post, UltraISO is unable to save the configuration data for the new user account in the registry.

Please fix this bug in the next build.

Please understand that UltraISO has two working mode: Installed and Portable. It does not change system registries (save settings) unless you setup UltraISO completely by current user.

What are the "Installed" and "portable" modes? I did not find information about them on the web site nor the online help.

UltraISO was initially installed using an account member of the local Administrators group so there was no rights restrictions. It was also fully configured using that same account.

Now I'm using a different logon account which is also a member of the local administrators group. This new account could not  persist any "saved" UltraISO settings. Each time I restart UltraISO, it is back to the default initial values.

Re-install UltraISO is what I had to do. But do you realize this is the oddest behavior to have to re-install the software for each account on a computer? Imagine if people had to do that for MS-Office. Anyway, its up to you to fix this issue.

On a different subject, I requested years ago to add a Search function in UltraISO to locate files that sometimes could be buried deep in directory structure. Any plan to have this in the future?

Press Ctrl+F to get the 'Search' dialogue.

Could this option be added to the 'Actions' menu and/or the right-click menu? The feature seems a little hidden otherwise.

Well, Ctrl-F is the standard for "Find" in any Windows program.  So if you've been a user of Windows for longer than a year, this shouldn't be the first time you're seeing this.

True. However, every other Windows-based program of which I am familar that has a search function triggered by Ctrl+F also has the same search option available from it's menu.

Similarly, I think it would be good to offer the "hidden" function Ctrl+Alt+E from the menu also, perhaps as an option in "Options > Configuration...".
