Forum: UltraISO Topic: Virtual vs Extract - Install From ISO Image ? started by: JosephB Posted by JosephB on Jan. 16 2009,14:03
Please excuse my very basic newbie question:I have downloaded an ISO Image File from Microsoft's MSDN site to my hard drive. My preference is *not* to burn it to a cd or dvd. I wish to run the setup.exe contained within the ISO Image File as if I was doing an install from a real CD or DVD. So, which method will install the MSDN sofware install that was downloaded ,as an ISO Image File to my Hard Drive, most reliably : A) Mount the ISO Image File via the (ISODrive) Virtual Drive function of UltraISO and execute "setup.exe" from the virtual drive ![]() ( ... P.S. Any difference in double clicking the setup.exe on vitrual drive in the real windows explorer pane or via UltraISO bottom Window explorer type pane. --- OR --- B) Use UltraISO's Extract function to extract the ISO Image File on the disk to a temporary folder and then proceed to execute the "setup.exe" in the temporary 'root' direcctory of the completly extracted cd/dvd ![]() Do both methods work reliably ![]() ... if so, what are the Advantages/disadvantages beween the two methods of installing ISO Image File software install/updates ?? Mounting to an ISODrive and setup directly is the prefered method for your issue, which is much more convenient than extracting to a temp folder first, and the same fast and reliable.
