Forum: UltraISO Topic: v9.3.3.2685 has bug in file splits. started by: mikesw Posted by mikesw on Apr. 01 2009,07:58
Hi, I ran ultraiso tril v9.3.3.2685 on Win XP Pro sp4. I'm trying to do file splits. Due to the 300meg limit, I copied about 233 megs into Ultraiso to do the file splits. Here are the steps below and the problems I encounterd. Note: This is with the private version fix for the problem with saving the boot file as bif instead of being stuck with iso's a few days back. A). Copied about 233 megs over to Ultraiso to save. B). Went to options->configuration-> compression. I have the "No Compression". and split files in 1.44megs FDD. I then selected from the dropdown list the FIRST selection format for file splitting. I don't have the checkbox set for .isz. C). I then goto file->save as which popsup a box to enter the filename which I enter as MYDVD_SPLIT and the default file extension was already set to .isz. D). Problem 1: The help file states that if the .isz checkbox is not set, that the default will be .iso. However, the preset file extension under file->save-as is .isz and not .iso E). Continuing with step D above, I hit the Save button, a popup error message appears which states "MYDVD_SPLIT.part01.isz /open Error!". If I had selected .iso as the file extension (which should have been the default file extension), it will give the same popup error and thinks it is .isz and not .iso. F). If I had checked the .isz in the compression screen, and then did save-as, the default file extension would be .isz and if I entered MYDVD_SPLIT and hit save, the same error message will appear as in item (E). G). If I select any of the other remaining two split volume format selections under the compression screen, and hit save-as, with a default selection of .isz, the files will split. Note: I didn't try unchecking the .isz checkbox on the compress screen to see if the default file extension on the file->save-as screen will split the files into iso format when using the 2nd and 3rd split volume format. Problem 2: A). Under the options->configuration->compression screen, the multi volume drop down list shows only the zip 100mb selection and not the 250meg and 750Meg zip drive selections, nor any of the iomega Rev drive selections. Sorry, we cannot reproduce a problem for step E and F.QUOTE D). Problem 1: The help file states that if the .isz checkbox is not set, that the default will be .iso. However, the preset file extension under file->save-as is .isz and not .iso Wrong. The last used extension will be the default if the checkbox is not set. QUOTE A). Under the options->configuration->compression screen, the multi volume drop down list shows only the zip 100mb selection and not the 250meg and 750Meg zip drive selections, nor any of the iomega Rev drive selections. Thanks for your suggestion. These two formats will be added at next release of UltraISO. Posted by mikesw on Apr. 02 2009,07:25
(xoben @ Apr. 01 2009,22:19) QUOTE Sorry, we cannot reproduce a problem for step E and F. OK, I'll rerun this weekend and post screen shots of the error. QUOTE D). Problem 1: The help file states that if the .isz checkbox is not set, that the default will be .iso. However, the preset file extension under file->save-as is .isz and not .iso QUOTE Wrong. The last used extension will be the default if the checkbox is not set. OK, Please update help file to state this in the help file section that mentions the default will be .iso. Here are the steps to reproduce UltraStor V9.3.3.8625 errorson a Windows XP Pro Sp3 computer. There will be a total of 5 tests, but only the first 4 will contain png files showing you the screens I see along with the popup error messages. Each test has multiple screens associated with it. Thus for test 1 I've labled the png files 01.01 01.02 01.03 etc and for test 2 it is 02.01 02.02 etc. Here are the test steps. Please view the pictures in numeric order. 1) a). perform clean install of ultrastore with no file associations chosen. b). On the configuration screen use the defaults no compression split checkbox checked 1st drop-down volume format Set isz checkbox not checked split size is blank 2). a). Add 70 mb subdirectory to the trial version of ultrastore b). change DVD label to MYDVD_SPLIT c). change the configuration compression to "NO COMPRESION" d). change the split size to 1.44Meg FDD e). first volume drop-down menu selection used volumename.isz,volumename.i01.isz... f). checkbox for split is checked g). checkbox for isz is not checked h). goto to file->saveas with the default save-as-type if isz i). hit SAVE button and the files will split correctly. 3). a). Delete all the files written into the MY ISO directory that ultraiso uses. This step is very iimportant since it looks like the cause of the problem. b). use the steps in test 2 above, but set the isz checkbox to checked. c). go to file->saveas with the default save-as-type of isz. d). hit SAVE button and a the popup error message is shown as "Please save as another name" is displayed. e). However, all the files were deleted in item (a) so this shouldn't be a problem. 4). a). after doing step 3 above do, b). in the save-as box, the filename will be "MYDVD_SPLIT.isz", change the save-as-type to ISO. Thus, the filename should be different, but upon another SAVE, the same error message appears as stated in test 3(d) above. c). Remove the isz file extension on "MYDVD_SPLIT.isz" to "MYDVD_SPLIT" and still use save-as-type of ISO. A new error message of "......MYDVD_SPLIT.isz /Open Error!" appears. Moreover, no matter which checkboxes, file size selection or volumename dropdown formats are selected, the Open Error will still appear. Test 5 - no screens captured, but see steps below 5). a). exit UltraIso and start it again. b). In the configuration->compression setup, select the split checkbox, and the set isz checkbox. Select file size as 1.44meg FDD and the first volumename selection. c). Do a file-save-as and the file will split. The save-as-type shown is isz d). Then do another faile-save-as and change the save-as-type to iso and the file saves as one large iso file, but doesn't split it into multiple isos (probably this is the way it is supposed to work). e). Do a file-save-as again, and if the file extension for file-save-as-type is isz it will prompt to overwrite the files already there. File overwrite works. f). Do a file-save-as again, and if the file extension for file-save-as-type is iso it will prompt to overwrite the large ISO file again that is already there. File overwrite works. g). Goto the MY ISO subdirectory and delete the ISO file that was previously written there. h). Do another file-save-as again, with the file extension for file-save-as-type as ISO and it will display a popup again of the "Open Error!". i). Do another file-save-as again, and change the file extension for as file-save-as-type of isz since the split files done earlier weren't deleted - only the iso one was. However, upon SAVE it displays a popup for "Open Error!". Conclusion: If one deletes previously saved files in the MY ISO directory and then tries to resave any of them again regardless if it is split or not, an OPEN ERROR! will be displayed unless one exits and restarts UltraISO again. QUOTE Ultraiso's support response. Please note that: After a 'Save As' operation, UltraISO will open the saved ISO/ISZ file automatically. SO ALL ACTIONS YOU DO NOW IS WITH THE SAVED FILE, NOT ORIGINAL FILES/FOLDERS, AND AN ERROR MESSAGE WILL APPEAR IF YOUR ISO/ISZ IS REMOVED. My response is that ultraiso shouldn't remember the file(s) or filename(s) once ultraiso has written them and CLOSED the file. I should be able to delete these files anytime I want and not get an error message or OPEN ERROR! message. So if what I read above is correct, then this needs to be fixed. I can't be filling up my hard drive with iso's and isz files because Ultraiso remembers them or won't release their names to be reused for something else..... Moreover, the support response says it remembers for "Save-as". I believe this is incorrect, since "Save" is the only menu option that is typically used to remember the previous file used to save to whereas save-as will allow one to change the filename, even it is the 'same' filename. This leads one to think that ultraiso isn't closing the file or releasing the lock on the file, so that I wouldn't get these error messages. So why am I able to use MSoft products to write i.e. word documents as either "save" and "save-as" and then I can delete them, so I can write them again with the same filename and not get 'open error" or "change the filename" errors? ![]() Posted by 3rods on Apr. 10 2009,19:12
I get an error when trying to burn a particular img file; something about "error reserving zone for burning". The error doesn't say much else. It ruins the disc since it occurs after the lead in and spits it out of the drive when the error occurs. The disc is DVD-R - compusa brand, no sure the 'actual' brand. It's a DVD video image. It burns fine in CDBurnerXP which is free...*rolls eyes* UltraISO version is v9.3.3.2685 also. |
