My friend has a new HP notebook with preinstalled Windows 7 Home Premium in it. But now the notebook's Windows 7 is corrupted. He wants me to copy out all the data inside the windows. I used my made Easyboot CD to boot up the notebook for xpe software, so as to copy back all data from it.

Unfortunately, when I boot up the Easyboot CD with the menu option, I choose xpe (my program). After I press Enter, it only shows "File not found" and reboot right the way. Actually I've nearly 12 programs in my Easyboot CD. But no matter which programs in the boot menu I choose, it only shows "File not found" and reboot .

The symptom is I can boot up my Easyboot CD and the program boot menu can be shown. No matter which program I choose, it only shows "File not found" and reboot .

Any Idea what's that file missing. Actually I can use this Easyboot CD for all the desktop computer and works 100% fine.

The only thing I'm sure is , most HP/Compaq notebooks that set in AHCI mode instead of IDE/SATA in their BIOS, as you can proof and tell that in their Windows hardware manager (it's normally ICH8,9,10 AHCI or JMicron, Marvel). But the thing is in their BIOS , the AHCI mode can't be changed back to IDE/SATA mode , because this option is hiddened.

In my experience , no matter notebook or desktop pc. It is much easier to handle with IDE/SATA cd/dvdrom boot. If change this settings changed in BIOS to AHCI/RAID. Even some desktop computers can't boot their cd/dvd.

As I can do nothing about the BIOS change in HP/Compaq  notebook (fortunately , it's now mainly happen in HP/Compaq notebook , not Lenovo, Acer, Samsung, Fujitsu ...). And to boot up HP/Compaq notebook with our Easyboot cd/dvd is a must. Would anybody kind enough to help me to find out what that "File not found" is ?

Thanks in advancd.

Well, this question is not pointed to anybody speciall – so I give it a try :;):
I have really no idea what file that’s missing - HP notebook is a known “trouble-maker” regarding “BOOT”.

Test this:
1. Try to find a copy of “MsDart60.ISO” (“MsDart65.ISO” is the best choice as Win7 is used in notebook).
2. You can use easyboot-iso.script to integrate ISO-file (do not check “Run fromRAM” as this is not necessary for MsDart.ISO).
Note: This MsDart.ISO can also be run from USB (you already have the skills and “know how” to do this).
For the USB-alternative - you can also as option - run easyboot-usb.script and point to MsDart.ISO-file instead of normally EasyBoot-ISO-file (“mycd.iso”) when script ask for ISO-file to copy/integrate to USB.

If you can find MsDart.ISO and run this, you can easily copy files to USB (use Explorer in MsDart).

Hello balder

Sorry for late reply , as my internet supplier has downed me for few days.

I found MsDart50.ISO , MsDart60.x86.ISO , MsDart60.x64.ISO and MsDart65.ISO. I can make MsDart60.x86.ISO , MsDart60.x64.ISO and MsDart65.ISO to USB Drive very easily. But same as Windows XP , MsDart50.ISO can't be run in USB drive. As it booted up for a short while, a blue screen comes out and stop install.

Actualy from begin to now , I really want a way to install Windows XP from USB Drive. I've tried your suggestions and some instructions from this forum. But all fail to me.

I really need your help. Thanks

Well – MsDart50.ISO can be run!
If you launch MsDart50.ISO as it is - it should boot up correctly (use easyboot-iso.script and yes I know that I keep on nag about this method to launch ISO-files).
Note: Be aware that HP notebook is a well-known “troublemaker” when using this method

I have tested this on several computers and have no problem – this seems to be your “Gordian Knot" – impossible to solve :(
Can’t give you more specific guidelines in this matter :O
