Hi

After abandoning kaspersky rescue, I found a much effective solution: Bitdefender rescue:

http://download.bitdefender.com/rescue_....-cd.iso

It is based on isolinux so should be quite strait forward.. but for some reason nothing works.. kicker iso not working.. using the same method like Hiren cd not working.. Also tried both methods of balder script..

Always get stuck boot screen wallpaper...

The iso includes a folder named isolinux and a folder named casper plus files named boot.catalog

I tried extracting the iso to disk1 and using the command:

run /isolinux/isolinux.cfg

it ended up in a linux cmd error about not finding image file

isolinux.cfg uses this command menu:

menu label ^Start BitDefender Rescue CD in English
 kernel /casper/vmlinuz
 append  file=/cdrom/preseed/ubuntu.seed boot=casper initrd=/casper/initrd.gz splash vga=791 lang=us

Any suggestions?

I suggest we test using 'frugal solution' to solve this issue with bitdefender :)

Do it this way:

1. Open bitdefender.iso and extract folder 'casper' to folder disk1 (I used UltraIso to this whole operation)

2. Still having ISO-file opened in UltraIso i opened folder 'casper' and deleted file 'filesystem.squashfs'

3. In UltraIso I chosed 'Save As' and saved ISO to folder EZBOOT with the name bitdefender.iso

4. I used menu command in EasyBoot menu:  run bitdefender.iso

5. Important! Tick only 'Joliet' when creating ISO in EasyBoot

Note: when run in Virtual PC it worked fine, and it worked okay, including automatically downloaded latest virus definitions)

I tested using 'MobaLiveCD' and it failed, but run well from Virtual PC and from USB stick (I rebooted computer and tested in 'reality') :)
Note: 'virtualbox' uses an core that is Close the same as MobaLiveCD uses - so I suggest you change test method ???

Please test using USB stick or similar (or burn to a CD\RW)

Thanks. OK I created a bootable USB using your latest script, but forcing NTFS because iso.iso is 12GB in size. Everything working, except for Bitdefender... Same as with VirtualBOX.. hangs on image loading..

I did follow your instructions carefully, except for one thing, I placed the bitdefender.iso in a subfolder called ISOFILES but updated the command the run /isofiles/bitdefender.iso Could this be the problem?  The problem is it gets stuck while loading initrd.gz... (after 3 progress bar dots...)

Thanks

@EB1000

You cannot run bitdefender from a NTFS-filesystem, because it is based on Linux - FAT32 works okay, but not NTFS :O

You can still use FAT32 if separate files are less than 4GB in size
If you do have a file larger than 4GB, writing to a FAT32 filesystem fails :(

Do you really have such big files in your build - because if you don't have such files you can use 'Burn' (Write to USB) in EasyBoot - avoiding using my script.

Why not test with only having bitdefender in your build and test using 'Burn' in EasyBoot :)
Don't have the whole super-large build in EasyBoot, only bitdefender to test if it works okay

Thanks

I also tested with Fat32 usb (no files exceed 3GB). Same problem...

Is there any other way to boot Bitdefender?

Thanks

Yes in some way...
You can extract everything from ISO-file to folder disk1 and also from ISO-file 'Save BOOT File' to folder EZBOOT
Use menu command;  bootinfotable;run bitdefender.bif   (or whatever name you saved boot-file with)
Then tick 'Joliet' when creating ISO in EasyBoot

This works well from CD\DVD-unit but do not work at all from USB device - so we are back to square one :(

I cannot understand why it doesn't work for you, as I have tested from both CDRW as from USB stick without problem
Note: I tested from a 'real boot' and not from vmWare :O

Important notes: Don't forget to create a new ISO-file in EasyBoot each time you change something in folder disk1 or in folder EZBOOT

Its important to understand that it isn't files in folder disk1 or files in folder EZBOOT that is burned to USB :O
It is the files in the created ISO-file (ISO created by pushing button 'Make ISO' in EasyBoot) that is 'Burned' to USB device

Finally, you are recommended to do some updates of files in folder EZBOOT
Open folder 'EasyBoot\resource' and copy files 'memdisk', 'isolinux and file 'syslinux' to folder EZBOOT, overwriting existing files

Thanks

I only use your USB script to create usb because no matter what I try, the burn usb of ezboot never works ok for me. Now after every change I make I always create new iso file with ezboot, but the file created is 12GB in size, so open it with ultraiso and delete some big folders like HBCD (hiren) and DLC1 (another multitool) and PPAPPS (portable apps used by some live cds) and some iso files from iso folder. Then I copy all removed files from disk1 to the root of the usb created by your script... Is that not OK? I do not copy the ezboot folder because if I do it I get many errors...

What do you mean by updating files in ezboot? From where do I get the latest versions?

Are you talking about the files in the hidden folder ezboot? Those files are from the original ezboot installation I thing.. Only files in root of disk1 sometimes get overwritten by other files from different iso's I extract to disk1...

Also, after making changes to ezboot project and saving, I noticed that only 4 files get updated inside ezboot folder... I thing it is safe to copy only those 4 files to the already prepared iso w/o need to rebuild the iso again by ezboot...

When you install EasyBoot it usually install itself in folder 'EasyBoot'
Inside installed folder EasyBoot you have a folder 'disk1' (disk1 is the 'root' in EasyBoot)
You also have a folder 'ISO' and a folder 'lang' and a folder 'resource'
There is also some files - but that is of no interest to us
We are only interested in folder 'resource' and files in folder EZBOOT :;):

Open folder 'resource' and copy files 'syslinux', 'isolinux' and file 'memdisk' to folder EZBOOT in folder disk1
Files that are present in folder EZBOOT from the installation of EasyBoot, are to old and must be updated with later releases which are the files inside folder 'resource'

If having old 'syslinux' and old 'isolinux' and old 'memdisk' some part of the menu commands is working badly or even not at all :(

So go ahead and overwrite existing files in folder EZBOOT with newer versions that is inside folder 'resource'

Then test my solution to bitdefender as stated in post nr:2

UltraISO V9.5 and later version is required to make it work correctly - read HERE :O
