Well, after a lot of searching and trial and error, I found this web site that did the trick.  You have to follow the intructions to the letter though.

Hi,
i tried this with a Windows XP x64 Install CD (with integrated SP2).
When I boot from the USB stick, the setup program gives the following error:

INF file txtsetup.sif is corrupt or missing
Setup cannot continue, press any key to exit

What could I do?

Same error here bro???

Step #1: Prepping BartPE
First we’ll prep the USB drive we’ll be using for booting. This is by far the largest step in the process, though it shouldn’t be difficult for anyone to follow. It requires a functional Windows system.

As per this post, one must run PeBuilder on Windows XP 32 bits. I had erroneously used peBuilder on Windows Vista 64. This caused BartPE to crash with blue screen when entering something in the command prompt, when I was running the generated BartPE from the USB key.

It worked fine until I reached the point where it started installing XP. Then, I got a series of error messages

"setup was unable to retrieve the product identification of the system you are installing"

and

regopenkeyex(system\setup\pid) returned error

Since I am booting from a USB key, and it has worked so far, the media is fine. Then I don't understand these error messages and how to get rid of them.

Can anyone else share their insight?

Thanks.

What is the correct method for creating a bootable USB stick from an ISO image from Microsoft MSDN.  I have a Win XP SP3 image from MSDN, and have attempted to create a bootable USB stick and have tried booting two different machines with it. On one machine, I get "Start booting from USB device...." and just stops there. On another machine, I get that same message, then "Setup is inspecting your computer's hardware configuration...", then "INF file txtsetup.sif is corrupt or missing, status 18. Setup cannot continue. Press any key to exit. "

It is my understanding that all I need is the MSDN OS ISO file,  Do I need to prep the USB stick with something else?

Thanks
